| A small bronze sculpture. | |||||
| This piece was comissioned as a memorial for a guy who liked flying, among other things. The idea is ascention, climbing through the turbulence of life to be floating aloft, looking back on the distance you came. | |||||
It's about 11 inches tall, weighs about 15 pounds. The saying "come back again" was a favorite of his. |
| The metal is silicon bronze, sandcast in 5 major pieces and 4 wingtips and then welded together. | |||||
How
it was made
| It started as a clay sculpting. | |||||
| The clay is studied and parting lines are defined by sticking in pieces of sheet metal. Wings were cut off | |||||
| A sand mold opened just after ramming. |
Fire, Hot metal, etc. |
| After welding and some finishing (but not an excessive amount), I sandblasted the piece and gave it a liver of sulfur patina. | |||||
| I would like to do more of this kind of work. | |||||
